Preface to the South Asian Edition The book titled "Clinical Neuroanatomy," originally written by Richard S. Snell, is extremely admired not only as a principal source of neuroanatomy learning but also as a trustworthy resource for medical students, neurosurgeons, neurologists, and clinicians globally. Prof. Snell has been a doyen in the field of Anatomy and it is indeed a great honor for me to edit the First South Asian Edition of Snell's Clinical Neuroanatomy. This edition of Snell's Clinical Neuroanatomy is an endeavor to deliver basic knowledge of the struc- tural organization of the nervous system essential for the practice of medicine. The book emphasizes the functional aspects of the organization of the nervous system. The revision has been carried out giving due consideration to the new competency-based curricu- lum recommended by the Medical Council of India. Organized systematically and reviewed extensively, the current edition reflects the state-of-the-art clin- ical approaches to neuroanatomical structures and strengthens concepts with diagnostic images and enriched illustrations. Anatomy relating the different parts of the skull to brain areas has been included in the introductory chapter ensuring the noteworthy concepts are highlighted. New tables have been added to simplify the topic and facilitate quick revision. Enhanced color illustrations, and photographs have been incorporated to facilitate understanding of fundamental concepts and identification of neuroanatomical structures that not only define but also demonstrate neuroanatomy as it is applied clinically. Each chapter commences with well-defined objectives and a clinical case for practical introduction to the key concepts. Each chapter ends with bulleted key concepts, clin- ical problem-solving cases, and review questions that test student's comprehension and ensure preparation for clinical applications. These case studies and clinical vignettes are useful in the preparation of professional examinations as well as in examinations such as USMLE and NEET-PG. Updated Clinical Notes highlight important clinical considerations for quick reference and review. An attempt has been made to strengthen the pre- paredness of medical students in facing professional examinations. Keeping this in view, frequently asked questions have also been added that include enumera- tion, short and long notes, and labeled diagrams. Along with the "Color Atlas of the Brain," "Atlas of Noteworthy Diagnostic Images (CT and MRI)" has also been added to bridge the gap between basic neuroana- tomical concepts and clinical application. A comprehensive Question bank, including over 450 questions, is provided online. This book aims to help the medical students and res- idents in learning the essentials of neuroanatomy in the proficient way possible. It will help the students excel in the exam as well as clinic and develop their rational reasoning that will relieve the suffering of those with neurological disease and give them hope for a better life. I am confident that it will serve as a useful and learner-friendly and authoritative compendium for the medical students as well as the health professionals.
